The lawsuit was over the fact that the 6501 was pin compatible with
the 6800 and plugged right into 6800 motherboards. The 6502 is merely
bus compatible.
The biggest change in the 6502 vs the 6800 is that it's little endian.
This allows it to read the next instruction byte while decoding the
previous. As a result it's instruction timing is quite a bit better.
